Writing about yourself is hard. Whether or not English is your first language, the personal essay asks for something we don't get much practice doing at school: being honest and reflective, making it matter. And so maybe you’re staring at a blank page, not sure how to start. Or maybe you’ve written something already, but it feels too stiff, too generic, not quite...right.
I can be your guide through this process—not just editing your essay, but helping you explore who you are, what makes you unique, and how best to convey it in those 600-odd words. The personal essay isn’t just a supplement to your application, it can be the piece that ties it all together. It’s where the admissions committee gets the clearest sense of who you are, maybe even starts to remember you.
I'm a Korean-American writer and editor who's been helping students improve their writing for more than 8 years. Whether you need someone to polish a rough draft or you’re not even sure where to begin, we'll work together to shape something that’s both compelling and you.

I work with students on all kinds of applications, from U.S. college admissions (Common App, UC, etc.) to graduate school, transfer, and scholarship essays.Whether you’re starting from scratch or refining your final draft, I can help you discover your story and core message, shape a clear, compelling narrative arc, and edit for grammar, clarity, and flow.
1. You send me a draft or a prompt and some background on yourself.
2. We have a 30-60 minute video call to talk through your story, goals, and strategy.
3. If you’re starting fresh, you’ll write a first draft based on our conversation.
4. I return detailed comments and edits within three to five days.
5. You revise the essay based on my feedback—we might do one or two more rounds of edits this way.
Most students I work with pay between $150 and $320, depending on what they need. If you’re not sure what would be most helpful, I’m happy to talk it through during our free consult and figure out an approach (and price) that works for you.
I’m a Korean-American writer and educator based in the U.S. For over eight years, I’ve worked with students one-on-one to help them develop their writing, mostly through tutoring and mentorship. Along the way, I discovered how much I enjoy helping others find their voice and tell their story. My goal is to make the essay-writing process more fun, focused, and rewarding, no matter where you're starting from. I don’t use templates or techniques, just honest conversation, close listening, and a deep respect for your voice.I look forward to working with you!
