You're in the right place.

Writing about yourself is hard. Whether or not English is your first language, the personal essay asks for something we don't get much practice doing at school: being honest and reflective, making it matter. And so maybe you’re staring at a blank page, not sure how to start. Or maybe you’ve written something already, but it feels too stiff, too generic, not quite...right.

I can be your guide through this process—not just editing your essay, but helping you explore who you are, what makes you unique, and how best to convey it in those 600-odd words. The personal essay isn’t just a supplement to your application, it can be the piece that ties it all together. It’s where the admissions committee gets the clearest sense of who you are, maybe even starts to remember you.

I'm a Korean-American writer and editor who's been helping students improve their writing for more than 8 years. Whether you need someone to polish a rough draft or you’re not even sure where to begin, we'll work together to shape something that’s both compelling and you.

What I can help with:

I work with students on all kinds of applications, from U.S. college admissions (Common App, UC, etc.) to graduate school, transfer, and scholarship essays.Whether you’re starting from scratch or refining your final draft, I can help you discover your story and core message, shape a clear, compelling narrative arc, and edit for grammar, clarity, and flow.

Here’s what working together might look like:

1. You send me a draft or a prompt and some background on yourself.
2. We have a 30-60 minute video call to talk through your story, goals, and strategy.
3. If you’re starting fresh, you’ll write a first draft based on our conversation.
4. I return detailed comments and edits within three to five days.
5. You revise the essay based on my feedback—we might do one or two more rounds of edits this way.

What it costs:

Most students I work with pay between $150 and $320, depending on what they need. If you’re not sure what would be most helpful, I’m happy to talk it through during our free consult and figure out an approach (and price) that works for you.

FAQ

Can you help me if I haven’t started yet?

Of course! I can help you brainstorm, organize your thoughts, and shape your essay from start to finish.

Do you speak Korean?

I do speak Korean, though having spent most of my life in the U.S., I’m more comfortable reading and writing in English. We can speak in either language during our consults.

How many revisions are included?

That depends on what you need, and it’s something we can talk about during our consult. Most students go through one to three rounds of revision, depending on how far along the essay is.

What kinds of essays do you help with?

I focus on personal and admissions essays, including college application essays (like the Common App), short prompts for specific schools, and personal statements for scholarships or academic programs. If you’re not sure whether your essay fits, just ask!

How much does it cost?

Rates vary depending on what’s needed, but most projects fall between $150 and $320. I’ll walk you through the options during our consult.

How long does the process take?

I usually return comments and revisions within 3-5 days of receiving a draft. Depending on how many rounds we do, the full process takes between 3 days and 2 weeks.

Do you guarantee admission to top schools?

No, admissions decisions depend on various factors. But I can help ensure your personal essay is clear, compelling, and a genuine strength of your application.

Can you help me translate my ideas from Korean into English?

Yes! I can help you take your ideas from Korean and express them clearly and naturally in English.

Can parents be involved in the process?

While I work directly with students during the writing process, I’m also happy to speak with parents (especially at the beginning) to answer questions and explain how everything works.

Is there a Korean version of the site?

Yes! You can find a condensed, Korean-language version of the site here.
